Faith Of Our Fathers
Posted by admin on February 18, 2012
A year or so ago, I was channel hoping on the television and came one of the religious channels that had an all woman choir singing "Faith of Our Fathers". What caught my attention was that it sounded different than what I was accustomed to singing. I noticed that it appeared that the music the tenors were singing was very high and this really made the song wonderful to listen to and the words seemed to take on a new meaning to me.
I started searching for this arrangement and never could find it. But then I was working off of my memory and what the music should look like. After a while finding nothing but the traditional arrangement, I gave up and moved on to other things.
Then a strange thing happened. This past weekend I was scrolling through the PDF of E. O. Excell's hymnal, "Joy to the World", this song went by and I thought "High tenor notes?" And the memory of the song on television came rushing back. I then noticed that the arrangement was by H. F. Hemy and not by J. G. Walton. If I were to guess, this was the song I was looking for! I quickly re-scored the song with Mup and it's now part of our collection.
Faith of Our Fathers is one of those songs that reminds us of how important our faith is to us. Very encouraging and a joy to sing. I hope you like this arrangement.
Enjoy!

Site Download Now Available!
Posted by admin on January 27, 2012
Today I have added a link on the front page of this site so that you can now download a zip file of all the hymns, source files, and midi's. I decided to do this because the site has become rather large. Doing this will allow you to get the hymns quickly and then view them at your leisure. I hope that you will enjoy this and find it useful. I will be updating it monthly.
Enjoy!

Daniel Brink Towner Page Updates
Posted by admin on January 7, 2012
This week I spent some time and rebuilt the page for Daniel Brink Towner. Doing these kind of updates are a lot of work and I dread doing them. However, the end result makes it all worthwhile! I think it adds a nice touch to this website and I hope that visitors can benifit from the work.
The new page contains all the hymns that are currently on this site that I have reset with Mup, a picture of Towner, some biographical information from the book "Biography of Gospel Song and Hymn Writers" that was published in 1914. Along with this, are links to 15 hymnals that he edited during his lifetime that were found at the Internet Archive.
Hope you like the new changes and always, have a nice day!

Happy Holidays!

Happy holidays to all who visit. There is nothing more that I enjoy than a few days off to spend with my family this time of year. Hopefully this finds you in good spirits as well!
The past week I have been doing some improvements to the Hymns Unto God site that I think will help those who are looking for hymns. When I first moved this site to this server, it required that I rebuild the whole thing. In my haste to get it up and running, I did not add any meta data to the pages to help search engines locate the site. Well, I have been busy making those entries and it will take a while to complete. So far I have made it up to the hymns in the "D" category. I hope to be finished in a few weeks.
I have also made a change in the guest book that I hope will eliminate the spam that I was getting. I added the captcha that is run by Google. It is a little cumbersome, but necessary. So feel free to leave comments! I appreciate your feedback on this work!
In the next week I plan to add about ten more scanned hymnals to our ever growing list. I am amazed at how many of these things were being produced a hundred years ago. That period turned out some talented hymn writers! One thing I have been doing is downloading these hymnals to my hard drive. You never know when these sites may shut down because of funding and so much would be lost to us. I would suggest that you do the same if you enjoy these old works. To me it's a fascinating hobby.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and have a fun and safe holiday!
